I have to say that I disagree with you here, and I support same-sex marriage. But I wonder if a better solution to our disagreement wouldn´t be to keep government out of marriage completely; to have no legally-defined marriage at all. Why do we need anyone else making judgements about our relationsihps?

If we find that we want a legal architecture that will allow us to easily take care of next-of-kin, hospital visits, childcare, etc., then why not have an open system where any two consenting adults can enter into a union. The state should simply file the paperwork, not make judgements about the union, just as we do for heterosexual couples now. I think this would be a flexible system which would allow for the legal benefits of marriage, but without the necessity for actually defining marriage for the rest of the country.

No. Discrimination should not be housed in our constitution.

You miss the point of this, simply put the moment marriage is not defined as it was designed, meaning one man and one woman you will allow the destruction of those religious institutions who consider homosexual activity itself a sin and will never agree to this.

Thus the activist homosexual community will sue a church out of existence because the Church by law would be denying their right to hold a wedding in their house of worship.

Marriage = 1 man 1 woman, if you want to give insurance rights to unconventional couples then do so, allow anyone in a home to be covered by anthers insurance no matter relationship or age. As long as they are in the same house you can cover them. This takes away the strawman argument of discrimination and allows churches to survive.

Sexual activity is a choice! If you pass this you will then see NAMBLA asking for their rights, where does it stop?

How about we bring some clarity to the first ammendment and say specifically that there must be and shall be a wall of separation between church and state. Its a slippery slope considering some religions dont aknowledge sin. What next an ammendment to ban meat on fridays after lent? Some religions define marriage as the business arrangement between two families and their children. Most stipulate it be unseverable lesth by death. No free man should be bound by another mans faith in God.
